Hello! My name is Sophie Beech. I am a second-year student at Bowling Green State University and am majoring in journalism. I am from Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Saint Joseph Academy last spring. I chose to come to BGSU because of the welcoming community they have created on campus, the media opportunities they offer, and I was inspired by my dad to go here because he is an alumni.

Above is a photo of my family. They are the most important people in my life and give me motivation everyday to be the best version of myself! My dad, a BGSU alumni works in business and my mom, an Albion College alumni works in insurance. My sister, Lily, is my only sibling. She recently graduated from Albion College and moved to Chicago, Illinois to work in event planning and marketing.
At BGSU, I am involved with a sorority, Delta Gamma, and the student media program, Falcon Media. I write for the BGSU newspaper regularly. Last semester, I made the front page with a piece on DeAnte Shivers and his local business in Bowling Green – TriggaMeals. This was the story that I felt made me see how much I love journalism. Feature stories in particular – always feel like a good fit for me and my writing skills. I’ve linked it below this paragraph for you to check it out!
Something I’ve recently gotten more involved in, to benefit my mental and physical well-being, is running. Running is something that has been around me my entire life. My dad has done six marathons in his life, two ironman races, and countless triathlons. My mom has run two marathons and my sister and I did cross country our whole lives. Once I got to high school, I decided running was not for me and quit, until my senior year when I picked it up again. Ever since, I’ve been running on a regular basis. This year, I am training for the Columbus half marathon which takes place on October 20, 2024. Below I’ve linked information on running, why it’s good for you, how it works, and more.
Lastly, I am excited to get started with the 2024-25 school year and be back in BG once again!
